A lot of ND folks stay with therapists they don't like, mask heavily in therapy, or fall into people pleasing habits.
One time my trauma therapist went on maternity leave and I had a WONDERFUL replacement... that happened to remind me of accomplished women from my youth that I had admired and wanted to please.
The masking and people-pleasing I was doing in therapy with this substitute bled into m daily life and I ended up in deep deep burnout because I was taking her advice without questioning if it was right for me.
When my regular therapist returned, I was able to "snap out of it" and reflect on what had happened.
Finding the right therapist is like dating. It's all about the right fit.
So True, it IS all about the right Fit with one's therapist. Ive definitely have had great ones and also not so great ones; makes ALL the difference indeed.
